We're looking for a skilled Design & Release Engineer to join our team in Livonia, MI. As a key member of our Product Development team, you'll play a crucial role in designing and releasing automatic transmission clutch components and assemblies from concept to full-scale production.
Our ideal candidate has a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in product design and development, particularly in the automotive transmission or rotating component environments. You should be proficient in CAD software, such as CATIA or Siemens NX, and have a solid understanding of problem-solving methodologies, including 8D and Fishbone.
In this role, you'll lead the design and release of clutch components, develop clutch architectures that meet rigorous powertrain attributes, and partner with CAE teams to conduct virtual testing. You'll also collaborate with purchasing, finance, and cost estimating to select suppliers and achieve program cost/weight targets.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and release of automatic transmission clutch components and assemblies from concept to full-scale production
- Develop clutch architectures that meet rigorous powertrain attributes, including strength, durability, and NVH
- Release 3D and 2D CAD models that meet system-level design requirements
- Partner with CAE teams to conduct virtual testing (strength, capacity, and NVH analysis) and oversee physical validation testing
- Collaborate with purchasing, finance, and cost estimating to select suppliers and achieve program cost/weight targets
- Interface with engineers of surrounding systems (gears, bearings, pumps, castings) to ensure seamless integration
- Manage internal and external suppliers through manufacturing kick-off, tooling, and production changes
- Develop and maintain critical quality documentation, including DFMEAs and DVP&Rs
- Resolve plant, warranty, and high-mileage issues for current and past models to reduce warranty spend
- Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives to optimize cost and weight without compromising performance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- 3+ years of experience in product design, specifically within automotive transmission or rotating component environments
- 1+ years of experience with CAD software, such as CATIA or Siemens NX
- Strong working knowledge of problem-solving methodologies, including 8D and Fishbone
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical data concisely to leadership
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to motivate cross-functional teams and external suppliers

Salary:
- Salary grade 5: $65,100 - $109,300
- Salary grade 6: $74,300 - $124,500
- Salary grade 7: $86,600 - $144,900
- Salary grade 8: $99,100 - $166,200
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility, and competitive market value.
