Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Engineer to lead our efforts in optimizing product designs for seamless production and cost reduction.

In this senior role, you will bridge the gap between design and manufacturing teams, ensuring products are cost-effective, scalable, and high-quality from concept to launch. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep engineering expertise and a passion for process improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading DFM reviews and providing feedback on product designs to enhance manufacturability, reduce costs, and minimize defects.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product designers, mechanical engineers, and supply chain specialists, to integrate DFM principles early in the development cycle.
  • Developing and implementing DFM guidelines, tools, and best practices for the engineering team.
  • Analysing manufacturing processes, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending optimizations using simulation tools and data-driven insights.
  • Overseeing prototyping, testing, and validation to ensure designs meet production requirements.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in design and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Working with suppliers and vendors to evaluate materials, tooling, and assembly methods for feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
  • Staying current with industry trends in DFM, such as additive manufacturing, automation, and sustainable practices.

Requirements include:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in design engineering, with at least 4 years focused on DFM in a senior or lead capacity.
  • First principles thinking: a rigorous mindset focused on breaking down complex problems to their fundamental truths, enabling innovative solutions to manufacturing challenges.
  • A proven track record in optimising designs for high-volume manufacturing in automotive and/or aerospace/defence industries.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., NX, SolidWorks) and DFM analysis tools (e.g., simulation software for assembly and tooling).
  • A strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including injection moulding, CNC machining, PCB assembly, and quality control standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and experience with root cause analysis (e.g., Six Sigma or Lean methodologies).
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring teams and driving cross-functional projects.

Preferred qualifications include certifications in DFM, PMP, or related areas; experience with agile development environments; and the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance.
