In this position, you will be responsible for the performance and results of the Occupational Safety team. You will ensure the administration of plant-wide safety processes, emergency response planning, and compliance with regulations in a timely manner. You will closely partner with Health & Safety leadership to address complex general and occupational safety issues and collaborate with various departments. You will supervise the maintenance of accurate documentation, administration of investigations, inspections, and root cause analyses. You will have expertise in interpreting and administering corporate health and Safety policies, Safety regulations, and best practices, analyzing trends, and providing guidance to contribute to the company's over-arching effort to prevent employee injuries and illnesses and the elimination of hazards in the work environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Interpreting and administering company policies and conducting programs related to risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigations, inspections, audits, safety culture and engagement, etc. to prevent accidents and hazards at the workplace.
  • Managing plant and facility-wide safety processes and initiatives including the company's Safety Operating System (SOS), emergency response planning and training, and off-standard approvals, with consistency in a timely manner. Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, and corporate policies through collaboration with the plant and network medical, security functions, and UAW Health and Safety representatives.
  • Distributing and assigning tasks to the regional and facility Occupational Safety team, serving as a primary point of contact for regular inspections and audits to identify and assess workplace hazards, reviewing new equipment for safety concerns, developing activity hazard analysis, completing preventive maintenance procedures, etc., and guiding the regional and facility Occupational Safety team on accident prevention plans, and associated processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Managing completion and timely submission of regional and plant-specific entry forms (as applicable) and physical plant entry for all projects, ensuring personnel have current safety training, drug tests, and any other plant-required training before plant site arrival.
  • Developing and monitoring KPIs for tracking safety incidents, injury statistics, corrective actions, training hours, resolution time, etc. to ensure a safe and hazard-free working environment, developing internal reports for senior Health and Safety management, Legal & Compliance, and onsite facility/plant management teams and presenting trends, improvement opportunities, and other key findings. Oversees the maintenance of accurate records and documentation related to occupational safety matters in line with established policies and compliance requirements.
  • Leads the administration of department-specific ergonomics training, general and fire safety trainings, machinery and equipment safety trainings at plant locations, energy control and power lockout, root cause analysis, new hire orientation, management safety training, etc.
  • Conducts assessment to identify the need for new training programs and administers the same. Provides guidance and support to managers with respect to general and occupational safety-related queries.
  • Communicates effectively with statutory authorities, regulatory bodies, and corporate representatives and resolves safety issues and risks highlighted by other functions and external safety auditors/consultants and coordinates with these stakeholders to design appropriate precautionary measures to prevent their recurrence, anticipates operational roadblocks, and develops facility/plant specific safety and loss control programs and processes for seamless implementation.
  • Participates in the delivery of global, regional, and facility Occupational Safety specific communication, standards, and practices related to occupational safety including general safety, fire prevention, machine and equipment safety, electrical safety, first aid administration, etc. to encourage the adoption of Corporate Health and Safety practices, focused on incidence avoidance and regulatory compliance.
  • Reviews and updates Occupational Safety policies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and with corporate safety policies, communicated effectively to relevant stakeholders, and consistently enforced.
  • Performs talent management responsibilities including performance management, professional development, succession planning, disciplinary action, terminations, recruitment, pay decisions, and other personnel actions.
  • Involves frequent (defined as one to two-thirds of the time) lifting of more than 10 to 25 pounds. Work performed requires a good deal of walking or standing and may include some sedentary work and working conditions that include moderate noise levels related to the use of office equipment or machinery. May involve exposure to varying outside temperatures.
