We're looking for a Design for Service Commodity Specialist to join our team at Ford Motor Company. As a Design for Service Commodity Specialist, you will be responsible for improving serviceability in future product designs, program launch support, and delivering common and efficient global processes.
In this role, you will collaborate with Product Development teams to influence core and program design for enhanced serviceability of advanced thermal systems. You will also engage PD teams at early design milestones to positively impact vehicle serviceability, reduce Cost of Ownership, and improve repair cost and quality for current and future models.
You will monitor, introduce, and refine service requirements, ensuring compliance or approved deviations by supporting thermal system PD and embedding Service consideration. You will strategically identify Essential Special Service Tools (ESSTs) and secure their funding through Financial Information Requests, while actively working to minimize the overall need for specialized tooling by reusing ESSTs or eliminating the need.
You will drive the achievement of targeted Warranty Cost Avoidance objectives by identifying and implementing serviceability improvements (e.g., reducing service labor times, optimizing component-level service, minimizing ESST needs). You will also monitor Work Shop Manual revisions and verify industry procedures.
As a Design for Service Commodity Specialist, you will become a Design for Service IPTSE Subject Matter Expert to support DFS Program Managers and Specialists via training, updates, and other support. You will create and maintain scalable internal technical resources, such as presentations, playbooks, etc. You will educate DFS team members on new technology being introduced to their Programs.
You will participate in serviceability trials and competitive benchmarking activities. You will support the delivery of FCSD requirements tracked via the Global Launch Scorecard (including ESSTs, Diagnostics, Service Information Training, Owner’s Manual, Service Parts and Major Service Issues). You will support program Team Value Management (TVM) actions with requested feedback to ensure successful TVM implementation and downstream impact.
In addition, you will conduct regular external visits to validate the "Voice of the Technician" and bring ground-truth data to PD. You will work with Core PD teams to develop new service-based requirements based on data, new technologies, and lessons learned. You will own the maintenance, updates, and authoring of new service Digital Pre-assembly (DPA-4) assessments.
You will lead reviews of DPA-4 service issues for Core, Unit, and Technical Design Reviews (TDRs), facilitating escalation and alignment as needed. You will support reviews of DPA-4 service issues for Program Review Meetings, facilitating escalation and alignment as needed. You will support the Serviceability Process Team in developing Design for Service Processes and Training Modules.
You will utilize AI-driven insights and tools for predictive serviceability analysis and process optimization.
As a Design for Service Commodity Specialist, you will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. You will have 5+ years of experience supporting or leading Engineering Business Office functions. You will have 5+ years of experience with cross-functional stakeholder management. You will have 4+ years of prototype material, purchase service, ED&T, resource planning and sourcing processes. You will have 3+ years of experience demonstrating the ability to manage complex, cross-functional workflows.
Preferred qualifications include an MBA or master’s degree, 8+ years of experience leading Engineering Business Office organizations, demonstrated leadership capability across functional boundaries, proven project management experience in complex environments, strong communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership, working knowledge of using LLMs and Dashboards to improve work efficiency, and strong skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
