Description

We're building bunq in the US, and we need a CFOO who can help take us from regulatory readiness to launch, then scale what comes next.

This is not a keep-the-lights-on finance role. You'll build the financial and operational backbone of a US de novo bank from the ground up, working across finance, product, operations, risk, regulatory reporting, controls, capital, liquidity, and Board-level decision-making.

Your job is to make sure bunq US is safe, sound, scalable, and ready to grow from day one.

Your banking experience matters. We need someone who knows what it takes to prepare a US bank for launch, work with regulators, and build systems that can stand up to OCC and FDIC expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead bunq's US finance and operations setup from launch readiness through live operations.
  • Own capital planning, liquidity planning, regulatory reporting, financial controls, and US GAAP requirements.
  • Build a finance and operations model that is scalable, automated, and ready for regulatory scrutiny.
  • Translate bunq's European neobanking model to the US context, identifying opportunities and pursuing them fast.
  • Partner with OCC, FDIC, auditors, advisors, vendors, internal teams, and the US Board with clear, accurate, and decisive financial leadership.
  • Build the US P&L model, improve unit economics, and help shorten the path to breakeven.
  • Design an AI-first operating model that removes manual work, speeds up insight, and strengthens control.
  • Build and lead the right finance and operations team as the US business grows.

Requirements

  • You have been a CFO, Deputy CFO, Controller, Treasurer, or senior finance leader in a US banking environment.
  • You have direct experience with OCC and/or FDIC requirements.
  • You understand US GAAP, capital planning, liquidity, regulatory reporting, stress testing, internal controls, audit, and enterprise risk frameworks.
  • You understand new product development, third-party vendor management, and operations.
  • You know what it takes to prepare a bank for a new market launch, regulatory review, or major operational readiness.
  • You are hands-on enough to build the function yourself before scaling the team.
  • You can move between strategy and detail without losing speed.
  • You are excited by automation, AI, and building finance systems that are smarter than spreadsheets.
  • You can give clear, direct, evidence-based advice to leadership, the Board, regulators, and internal teams.
  • You are able to work from our NYC office in a hybrid setup.

Benefits

  • Competitive base monthly salary between $22,883 - $29,528
  • Fitness perk with ClassPass to keep you healthy and fit
  • MacBook to keep with you while you're with us
  • Monthly contribution to your phone and internet bills
