Description
At Bayer Crop Science, innovation in seed production directly shapes the resilience, efficiency, and sustainability of global agriculture. As Principal Electrical Engineer, you play a critical role in advancing this mission by leading the design and integration of electrical and control systems that enable scalable, high-throughput, and production-ready innovation solutions.
As a senior technical leader within the Seed Production Innovation (SPI) Technology organisation, you lead electrical engineering direction for complex, multidisciplinary systems from early concept through system development and deployment. You define electrical architecture, control strategies, and system integration approaches that ensure solutions are robust, safe, and transferable to production environments.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Lead electrical engineering design and development for complex systems that support laboratory, pilot, and production environments;
- Define and drive electrical system architecture, including controls, power distribution, instrumentation, and integration with mechanical and software systems;
- Lead research and evaluation of new technologies and recommend innovations in system architecture, controls, and industrial automation approaches;
- Drive project planning activities including scope definition, resource estimation, timelines, cost considerations, and technical deliverables;
- Lead design execution across all development stages, including concept development, risk and safety assessments, prototyping, testing, design reviews, and verification and validation;
- Construct and oversee development of prototypes to validate system performance against defined requirements;
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop integrated solutions and ensure alignment with system-level requirements;
- Ensure designs are scalable and transferable to production environments by partnering with manufacturing, operations, and support teams;
- Establish and maintain partnerships with external vendors, suppliers, and fabrication partners to support system development and deployment;
- Ensure compliance with company and industry electrical safety standards, design practices, and risk assessment requirements;
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, including requirements, designs, test plans, and operational documentation;
- Contribute to intellectual property generation through invention disclosures and patent development.
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience; or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience;
- Demonstrated experience leading the design and development of complex electrical and automation systems;
- Strong expertise in electrical system design, including control systems, power distribution, instrumentation, and system integration;
- Experience developing systems across the full lifecycle from concept through validation and deployment;
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts across cross-functional teams and influence design decisions;
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities related to system design, architecture, and project execution;
- Experience ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and design best practices;
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with industrial automation platforms, PLCs, microcontrollers, and control system integration;
- Experience designing electrical systems for automated or production-scale environments;
- Experience with system-level integration across electrical, mechanical, and software components;
- Familiarity with agricultural, industrial, or manufacturing environments;
- Experience collaborating with external vendors, academic partners, or research organisations.
