Description
The Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) program at The New York Public Library (NYPL) is seeking a part-time ESOL Instructor to teach English language classes at the St. George Library Center on Staten Island.
The instructor will facilitate free ESOL classes for adult patrons, promoting English language proficiency and digital literacy. Classes are offered in-person on Saturdays from 10:00 am-2:00 pm during a 4-week summer cycle between July and August.
Responsibilities:
- Teach ESOL classes that align with the prescribed curriculum
- Create lesson plans demonstrating communicative language teaching methods
- Instruct adult students to help them achieve their educational and personal goals
- Assist with student recruitment and record-keeping
- Participate in professional development related to adult basic education
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- At least 1 year of experience teaching adults in-person and online
- Experience creating lesson plans and administering standardized assessments
- Strong communication and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom
