Senior Software engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer at Bp, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining existing or new software.

You will provide technical leadership of junior engineers to ensure that the software is highly available, scalable, and secure.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and documenting sophisticated software components, services, and platforms
• Implementing robust and maintainable code with clear and maintained documentation
• Delivering customer value in an iterative fashion while working towards longer-term systems to solve roadmap goals with increasing efficiency
• Serving as a technical lead and owning projects end-to-end
• Communicating status and changes to the work you are responsible and accountable for, and keeping all stakeholders informed of changes and updates to the original plan
• Designing test automation on all code implemented through unit testing and integration testing
• Working with internal and external teams to bring new platforms to market
• Maintaining and enhancing software frameworks for development
• Serving as a technical mentor for other engineers on the team
• Participating in code reviews and contributing to the development of best practices
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve platform-related issues
• Supporting internal and external audit teams to prepare for and participate in security, software licensing, and regulatory audits, ensuring that all necessary documentation and evidence is available and accurate
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement new controls and procedures to address identified compliance gaps or risks

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems or equivalent work experience
• The ability to adapt to new technologies and processes, and be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes and develop creative and effective solutions
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with your peers through to senior leaders
• To be a self-starter, able to handle ambiguity, navigate uncertainty, identify risks, and find the right people and tools to get the job done

In terms of technical skills, you will need:

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (C#, Python, or TypeScript) developing cross-platform solutions
• The ability to write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects
• Experience with systems design
• 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on platform or service engineering
• Knowledge of software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle
• Experience designing and building complex software systems end-to-end which have been optimally delivered and operated in production

You will also need experience with:

• Building and scaling infrastructure services using Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure
• Core cloud application infrastructure services including identity platforms, networking, storage, databases, containers, and serverless
• Troubleshooting large-scale distributed production systems
• Databases, such as relational, graph, document, and key-value
• Data modeling and database design
• SQL
