As an Engineering Specialist - Tool and Die at Ford Motor Company, you will support Forging Feasibility and Die Process engineering with die design investigations and deliver design solutions and product/process requirements to proposed Die Design Architecture.
In this role, you will provide engineering support for closed-die forging operations, including roll form (preform), blocker, finisher, trim, twister, and calibration dies. You will work closely with Tool & Die Makers, production, quality, and maintenance teams to resolve tooling concerns such as wear, damage, alignment issues, and material flow challenges.
Your responsibilities will also include supporting part quality by identifying and correcting tooling-related dimensional variation, surface conditions, and forging flow concerns. You will participate in root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to improve die durability, forging stability, and product quality.
Additionally, you will serve as an engineering resource on the plant floor, providing technical guidance and support during production and downtime events. You will support die inventory tracking, tool life monitoring, and refurbishment planning to ensure tooling readiness and production continuity.
You will contribute to improvements in tool steel selection and heat treatment practices to enhance die performance and consistency. You will provide engineering support to die machining, die construction, repair, and tryout activities. You will coordinate auxiliary tooling builds with external tool shops.
You will also support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing scrap, improving uptime, and increasing tooling reliability.
