Software Engineer (Open Level)

Formation Bio is seeking a Software Engineer to help implement what engineering looks like at an AI-native pharma company. This role involves designing, building, and shipping production software that accelerates drug development, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and using AI tools as a core part of the work.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and ship production software that accelerates drug development
• Use AI tools as a core part of how you work
• Get close to the business and understand the clinical, regulatory, or operational problem you're solving
• Build for composability with clean APIs, structured schemas, and machine-readable documentation
• Review and enable contributions from non-engineers
• Build the guardrails that lift technical quality
• Prototype rapidly and collaborate across engineering, data science, product, and domain teams

Requirements:

• A track record of shipping production systems in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Experience with AI tools daily
• Strong fundamentals in writing clean, maintainable code, understanding distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
• Drawn to the problem space, not just the stack
• Comfortable with ambiguity and excellent communication skills
• Experience in pharma, biotech, or life sciences

Total Compensation Range: $204,500 - $267,000
