Job Title

Senior Software Engineer, AI Framework & Services

ABOUT THE ROLE

Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organisations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence. This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

The Team

AI Frameworks & Services (AIFS) The way software acts in the world is changing. AI agents don't just respond to users. They take actions, call APIs, hold credentials, and operate across systems on behalf of people and organisations. That shift raises a fundamental question: how do you extend identity to an agent? The AI Framework & Services team sits within Auth0's AI Products organisation and is focused on exactly that problem. We're building the product capabilities that let developers bring identity and authorisation into agentic systems, treating agents as real principals with real access controls and real accountability. This is an early-stage, high-ownership space. The product surface is still being defined, the customer problems are real and unsolved, and the team shapes both what we build and how we build it. We work closely with security, platform, and product partners to deliver capabilities that developers can trust in production.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer on the AIFS team, you'll own and deliver product capabilities at the intersection of identity, security, and AI-powered applications. Your primary focus will be backend systems: APIs, services, integration patterns, and the infrastructure that makes access control work reliably at scale. You'll also work across the stack when the product demands it. You'll work in an environment where the right abstractions aren't always obvious, where customer needs are still crystallising, and where what you build today may become foundational to how developers authenticate and authorise AI agents tomorrow. If you want real ownership of hard problems in a space that matters, this role is for it.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement backend systems, APIs, and services that bring identity and authorisation capabilities to AI agent workflows.
  • Own features end-to-end, from technical design through production, with attention to reliability, security, and developer experience.
  • Build integrations that allow agents to securely acquire, use, and scope access credentials in real-world environments.
  • Contribute to system design decisions, make thoughtful technical trade-offs, and communicate them clearly to peers and partners.
  • Help define patterns and abstractions for problems the industry hasn't fully solved yet: agent identity, delegated access, trust boundaries across agentic systems.
  • Instrument and monitor production systems with a bias toward observability, operational health, and fast incident response.
  • Collaborate closely with product, security, and platform partners to shape what gets built and how it integrates with the broader Auth0 platform.
  • Provide substantive code reviews and mentor teammates in ways that raise the engineering bar across the team.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience designing and shipping production-grade backend systems: APIs, services, and integrations that operate at scale under real constraints.
  • Strong foundation in one or more backend languages (Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Python, or similar); comfortable with REST and event-driven API patterns.
  • Experience building in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where the problem definition evolves alongside the solution.
  • A security-conscious mindset: you think about how credentials are handled, how trust is established, and what can go wrong at the integration boundary.
  • Strong system design skills. You can scope a feature, identify the trade-offs, and deliver something that holds up in production.
  • Collaborative instincts: you work well across functions, communicate constraints clearly, and help the people around you move faster.
  • Comfort operating in a product engineering context, writing code that serves real customers, not just internal tools.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with identity, authentication, or authorisation systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, FAPI, token-based access control).
  • Familiarity with AI agent frameworks, orchestration tools, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Exposure to agentic application patterns: tool use, multi-step workflows, agent-to-agent communication.
  • Experience with containerised environments (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Prior work on developer-facing APIs, SDKs, or integrations where developer experience was a first-class concern.
  • Contributions to open-source projects relevant to identity, security, or AI tooling.

Why You'll Love It Here

This is a team working at the edge of what identity means in a world of AI agents. You'll have real ownership of hard, unsolved problems, backed by Okta's platform, Auth0's developer relationships, and a team that values technical depth and customer impact in equal measure. You'll help shape the product, not just implement a backlog. You'll work with people who care about getting the details right. And you'll be building something that matters to the developers and organisations trying to do AI responsibly.
