Description
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and grow teams of software engineers working on the foundational building blocks that Anthropic's product organization runs on. This is product infrastructure at the highest scale, with a user base and performance demands growing at an unprecedented rate. The team's mandate is to scale ahead of that demand, evolving our systems to meet customer growth, running our stack across all three major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, and GCP), and unblocking the bottlenecks that enable our org's development speed at the highest standard of quality.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a multi-team engineering organization through other managers and tech leads, owning hiring, the development of your leaders, and a culture where strong people do their best work and stay. You will set the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap for product infrastructure, bringing clarity to a company-critical charter, defining direction, sequencing the work, and derisking large initiatives that span multiple teams. You will scale our infrastructure to meet rapidly growing customer demand while holding a high bar on reliability and cost efficiency, drive the operation of our stack across all three major cloud providers, and raise development velocity across the entire product engineering org by finding and removing the bottlenecks that hold it back, without trading away quality.
You will partner deeply with product, research, and infrastructure leaders, and make the architectural decisions that serve the whole organization. You will manage a broad set of senior stakeholders and keep executives and partner teams aligned as priorities shift. You will grow the next layer of engineering leadership by developing managers and senior ICs so the org can take on more.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have 10+ years of engineering experience with a deep track record of engineering leadership (8+ years), including running a multi-team organization and managing managers at significant scale. You will need to have built and operated product infrastructure at very high scale, with stringent reliability and efficiency requirements. You will need to have led complex multi-region or international infrastructure deployments, led an organization through a period of major growth or transition, and have both a startup environment and significant enterprise-scale company experience, and know how to navigate the challenges that come with that scale.
