Description
The New York Public Library (NYPL) seeks a Young Adult Librarian to empower young adults aged 12-18 to become creative thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and resourceful users of information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide reference service and resource recommendations using print, media, and digital resources.
- Collaborate with the Youth Educational Services Department to develop, promote, facilitate, and evaluate innovative programs for young adults.
- Partner with the collection development team to build and maintain the Young Adult collection.
- Engage young adults with the collection and encourage digital literacy.
- Conduct outreach to community-based organizations, schools, and local businesses.
- Develop and maintain the young adult space and social media content.
- Mentor library staff and assist with circulation and other duties.
Required Education & Experience:
- ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Studies.
- Public Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York.
Required Skills:
- Strong commitment to public service.
- Experience creating programs for young adults.
- Knowledge of young adult literature and materials.
- Experience developing and marketing young adult collections.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Google applications, and technology devices.
