Description
We are seeking a Security Officer to provide a professional, visible, and customer-focused security presence throughout The Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh.
The successful candidate will ensure the safety and security of visitors, tenants, contractors, and colleagues while maintaining a welcoming environment and supporting the centre's operational requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out regular patrols of the shopping centre, service areas, car parks, and external perimeter
- Monitoring and responding to alarms, incidents, and security breaches promptly and professionally
- Ensuring all incidents are recorded accurately and reported in accordance with company procedures
- Conducting lock and unlock procedures for designated areas
- Monitoring CCTV systems in compliance with current legislation and company policies
- Assisting with emergency evacuations and incident management procedures
- Challenging unauthorised persons and ensuring access control procedures are followed
- Delivering exceptional customer service to all visitors, tenants, and colleagues
- Providing directions, information, and assistance to members of the public
- Acting as an ambassador for The Gyle, promoting a safe and welcoming environment
- Supporting customer service initiatives and centre events where required
- Identifying and reporting hazards, defects, and unsafe practices
- Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
- Supporting emergency response procedures, including first aid and fire incidents where trained
- Maintaining awareness of site-specific emergency plans and business continuity arrangements
- Preparing detailed incident and occurrence reports
- Liaising with emergency services when required

Requirements:
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence
- Previous experience in a security role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service focus
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Good observational and report-writing skills
- Ability to work a flexible shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays
- Basic IT literacy
- SIA CCTV license (desirable)
