Data Center Operations Technician

About the Role

As a Data Center Operations Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining the health of our server and network infrastructure in our data centers. Your main goals will be to minimize mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to repair (MTTR). You will be skilled at following directions, learning quickly, and paying close attention to details. You will be available by cell phone and willing to work onsite during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting and monitoring of servers, diagnose and repair issues.
• Rack and stack data center network equipment during build-outs.
• Maintain network infrastructure, including network gear swaps and troubleshooting optics/fiber links.
• Manage data center operations tickets using Jira.
• Create and maintain documentation of tasks and standard operating procedures.
• Handle receipt and decommissioning of data center hardware.
• Install racks, servers, and switches, including staging, cabling, and power-up.
• Maintain warehouse inventory and asset management using our internal application.
• Manage vendor returns for infrastructure under and out of warranty.
• Oversee spare parts inventory within the data center.
• Design and implement network layouts and solutions within our data centers.

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with server, storage, compute, and network hardware.
• 2+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing servers and networking infrastructure.
• 1+ year of experience in inventory management, ordering, receiving, and shipping server and network equipment.
• Strong Linux skills.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs.
• Availability for 24/7 facility work, including day and night shifts.

• Experience being on-call and responding to critical events.
• Experience leading data center infrastructure projects.
• Eagerness to learn new things within the data center world.
• Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and detail-oriented.
• 1+ year of experience in structured cabling (copper/fiber).
• 1+ year of experience with power and cooling concepts inside data centers.
