Process Risk and Compliance Operations Manager

The Process Risk and Compliance Operations Manager will own the strategic design and continuous evolution of risk frameworks, risk registry, and executive risk narratives for Community Support at Airbnb. This involves translating investigative findings, AI/ML model outputs, operational signals, and emerging threats into decisions and actions that protect Airbnb.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and owning the CS Risk Appetite Framework
• Evolving the CS Risk Registry as a living strategic instrument
• Developing and stress-testing risk assessment standards
• Supporting the evolution of models and processes used in detection triage and investigation
• Establishing ongoing governance cadences
• Collaborating closely with the Insider Threat Investigations
• Co-designing escalation and review protocols for high-severity investigation findings
• Participating in joint case reviews, postmortems, and incident debriefs
• Providing strategic risk context to the Investigations team
• Coordinating the feedback loop between investigations and AI-driven detection systems
• Owning the end-to-end lifecycle of root cause resolution
• Maintaining and governing a centralized root cause and remediation tracker
• Driving cross-functional remediation workstreams
• Tracking resolution effectiveness over time
• Integrating root cause intelligence into the risk registry and risk appetite framework
• Reporting on root cause resolution health to senior leadership
• Crafting and delivering executive-level risk narratives
• Defining and maintaining monitoring thresholds and escalation triggers
• Translating investigative findings into actionable risk mitigation recommendations
• Driving cross-functional risk alignment
• Leading systemic risk reviews
• Championing the integration of risk thinking into operational design
• Serving as a change agent for risk culture
• Providing leadership and mentorship to more junior team members
• Designing and delivering risk and compliance training
• Fostering a culture of constructive challenge

The ideal candidate will have:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, Operations, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
• 10+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, governance, or operational risk
• Proven program management capability
• Experience collaborating with or providing strategic oversight to investigations teams
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and govern AI/ML systems from a risk perspective
• Proven ability to synthesize ambiguous, complex, and sometimes conflicting information into clear risk narratives and strategic recommendations
• Strong organizational influence and stakeholder management skills
• Critical thinking and intellectual curiosity
• Ability to adapt and innovate, challenge the status quo, and identify new solutions
• Experience with AI risk management frameworks, fraud, safety, or insider threat risk frameworks, and GRC platforms
