Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Thermodynamics Engineer to join our team in developing and implementing reduced-order models for real-time simulation in the automotive environment.
The successful candidate will conduct a systematic literature review on model reduction, real-time simulation, and thermodynamic substitute models in the automotive sector.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyse existing 1D thermodynamic models (e.g., GT-Power) in terms of structure, model assumptions, and calculation time behaviour
- Investigate relevant thermal target variables, such as waste heat flows, wall heat losses, or cooling circuit variables
- Identify dominant influencing variables, model parameters, and simplification potentials
- Develop, implement, and parameterize reduced or real-time capable substitute models
- Examine and compare various approaches (e.g., physics-based reduction, map methods, data-driven models)
- Validate and evaluate models with regard to accuracy, robustness, and real-time capability
- Optionally, transfer models to alternative simulation environments or HiL/XiL systems
- Compare developed approaches with the existing base model
- Critically discuss the significance, transferability, and limitations of the developed modelling approaches
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Technology, Mechatronics, Energy Technology, or a comparable field
- Focus on thermodynamics/energy technology, model formation and simulation, control engineering/system dynamics, or data analysis
- Good knowledge of thermodynamics and internal combustion engines
- Understanding of physics-based modelling and simulation
- Ideally, initial experience with data-driven methods
- Safe handling of MS Office
- Experience with GT-Power or comparable simulation tools is desirable
- Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink is advantageous
- Basic knowledge of Python or a comparable programming language is desirable
- English and German language skills
- High self-initiative, pronounced analytical abilities, structured and independent working style, team ability, and communication strength
