The EA Sports NHL team is looking for a UI Motion Designer who is passionate about creating engaging motion and video content, solving complex problems and building experiences to delight our players.

Responsibilities

This role reports to the Design Lead and collaborates closely with Experience Designers, UI Designers, Art Directors, Producers, and Engineers to create high-quality motion experiences that elevate player engagement and reinforce the visual identity of EA SPORTS NHL and seasonal campaigns.

  • Lead the creation of visually compelling 2D and 3D motion content that supports NHL’s Live Operations and in-game content that keep the player experience fresh, relevant, and engaging throughout the year.
  • Design and produce motion graphics, animations, and promotional content that bring new program themes and live content updates to life across the product.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate creative direction into polished motion experiences that balance player needs, business goals, technical constraints, and production timelines.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and visualization of new player experiences, game features, and product initiatives through motion prototypes and 3D explorations.
  • Work fluidly across 2D and 3D workflows, creating motion mockups, prototypes, and presentation materials that help communicate design intent from concept through implementation.
  • Help evolve and maintain the visual language, motion principles, and design system standards that ensure consistency and quality across the NHL experience.
  • Advocate for motion design excellence by presenting work, gathering feedback, and iterating on solutions that enhance usability, clarity, and emotional impact.

Requirements

  • Portfolio showcasing exceptional motion design work across both 2D and 3D mediums, with examples demonstrating strong visual storytelling, video editing, animation craft, and user-centered thinking.
  • 3+ years of experience creating high-quality motion design content within cross-disciplinary product, entertainment, or game development teams.
  • Strong proficiency with industry-standard motion and 3D tools, including After Effects and Cinema 4D, with experience working alongside design systems and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Excellent visual design fundamentals, including composition, typography, color, hierarchy, timing, and motion principles.
  • Experience creating motion content for live products, seasonal campaigns, marketing moments, or ongoing content ecosystems.
  • Ability to develop concepts and translate them into compelling motion experiences, from early exploration through final execution.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale, incorporate feedback, and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for sports, games, entertainment, and creating experiences that resonate with players.

Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).
