About the job

This position is needed to enable Twilio’s Government, Policy and Regulatory Affairs Team in APJ to manage the increasing regulatory work and to support the businesses’ aims in the region.

You are the right person for the role if you like the challenge of supporting a fast growing company that is innovating in the world of communications and technology.

You will support Twilio in understanding and fulfilling its telecommunications regulatory compliance obligations in various countries within the APJ region.

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who not only understands the regulatory landscape but also understands the practical obstacles of implementing compliance in a complex technological ecosystem, has experience working cross-functionally to overcome those obstacles, and enjoys the challenge of it all.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Own and drive regulatory advisory workstreams, providing strategic guidance on how evolving laws impact Twilio’s products, services, marketing initiatives, and customer communications.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Commercial, and Go-To-Market teams to assess risk, shape compliant approaches, and help teams ship with confidence.
  • Lead proactive regulatory projects, identifying upcoming reforms, planning for change, and helping the business prepare for new requirements with clear, actionable plans.
  • Provide support across additional practice areas as needed, including cyber and privacy workstreams, and reviewing, drafting, and supporting a broad range of regional priorities.
  • Deliver advice in a way that is concise and usable for non-legal stakeholders, helping leaders understand the practical “what to do next” rather than receiving long-form memos.
  • Instruct and manage external counsel when required, including scoping work, managing timelines, and supporting budget discipline.
  • Help improve how the legal function scales, contributing to templates, self-serve guidance, managing administration and process improvements, and leveling up legal operations to create leverage for the team.
  • Build strong internal relationships and become a trusted business partner who can influence, persuade, and align stakeholders on sound, pragmatic legal outcomes.
  • Proactively monitor regulatory developments and maintain accurate updates in internal systems like Airtable.

Qualifications

Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply.

If your career is just starting or hasn’t followed a traditional path, don’t let that stop you from considering Twilio.

We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • 6 - 8 years PQE
  • Experience working in law, policy or regulatory in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore or another relevant APJ jurisdiction.
  • An understanding of telecoms and tech regulatory frameworks in the APJ region or an understanding of other highly regulated industries such as financial services or energy.
  • Experience advising on regulatory compliance matters at a law firm, in-house, or government agency.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative spirit, contributing positively to team dynamics while also possessing the ability to work independently and drive initiatives forward autonomously.
  • Critical thinking, good judgment, and ability to balance priorities, resources in order to deliver on concurrent projects.
  • Takes ownership of workstreams by maintaining clear task overviews, tracking deadlines, and driving execution in collaboration with the wider team.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills by coordinating across internal functions and ensuring timely delivery of priorities, while also actively contributing to execution.
  • Familiarity and experience in drafting regulatory filings and legislative consultation submissions.
  • Experience managing responses to regulatory communications, enforcement actions, and other regulatory inquiries and consultations.
