Description
Okta is seeking a Corporate Counsel, IP to join its Legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to protect Okta's innovations and brand, and continuously shape and refine its global IP strategy.
The ideal candidate will have a software and patent prosecution background, a relevant technical degree (CS, EE, or ECE), and experience handling various aspects of intellectual property work, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Portfolio Management & Strategic Advice:
- Oversee the lifecycle of Okta's IP assets
- Refine and execute IP strategies to maintain a competitive edge
- Serve as an advisor on IP-related business risks and emerging legal trends
- Translate complex IP concepts into business-oriented advice
- Refine company-wide IP policies
- Patent:
- Partner with engineering and product teams to identify patentable inventions
- Collaborate with outside counsel on patent applications
- Develop knowledge of the industry's patent landscape
- Refine Okta's patent strategy
- Other IP Issues:
- Advise on strategic trade secret issues
- Provide guidance on software copyright protection and OSS
- Support trademark registration and enforcement
- Advise on API integrations, digital content, and developer agreements
- Draft, review, and negotiate IP-specific provisions in contracts
- Conduct IP due diligence for potential acquisitions
- Compliance and Policy:
- Assist with IP-related compliance issues and industry standards
- Deliver training to employees on IP best practices
- Litigation:
- Support all phases of IP litigation
The annual base salary range for this position is $180,000-$248,000 USD.
