We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in Costa Mesa, California. You will work closely with the program leadership and a wide spectrum of cross-departments as part of a team focused on solving hard problems and changing the industry forever.
Responsibilities:
- Develop electrical schematics, power system single line diagrams, system interconnect diagrams and define wire harnesses that connect electronic equipment within a subsystem and between subsystems.
- Design electrical interfaces and enclosures for integration of sensors, and peripheral equipment with autonomous systems.
- Troubleshoot issues that span the electrical and software boundaries, with solid skills using both test equipment (Oscilloscopes, DMM, etc.) and basic software debugging tools.
- Develop subsystems (sensors, interfaces, power management, and networking) for bespoke capabilities.
- Work closely with other electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers to deliver fully functional products.
- Work in a fast-paced environment balancing schedule against cost and performance parameters.
- Conduct peer-level and cross-discipline design reviews, perform requirements analysis, and plan system verification to ensure compliance with project goals and industry standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 8+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
- Experience developing schematics, interconnect diagrams, and wiring harnesses.
- Comfortable with a variety of electronic CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, others acceptable).
- Familiarity with networking and standard interfaces such as Ethernet, CAN, I2C, USB, MODBUS, ProfiNet, etc.
- Competence with test equipment such as multi-meter, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and automation of tests.
- Experience with electro-mechanical and electrical design concepts.
- Experience in design for signal integrity / power integrity.
- Experience in designing and integrating low-power electronics.
- Experience in fieldable system design.
- Familiarity with developing and executing test plans for complex systems.
- High-ownership and a bias toward action – if you see a problem, you want to solve and fix it.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Ability to travel 25% with potential surges above 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing electronic circuits and hardware kits.
- Experience designing electrical and power systems for autonomous systems.
- Familiarity with common MCU, CPU, FPGA devices and technologies.
- Experience with PCB design including collecting requirements, schematic design (Altium, Eagle), component selection, supervision or completion of layout, bring-up, test, debug and system integration.
- Familiarity with software development processes and tools such as git, Github, JIRA, etc.
- Comfortable in conducting worst case circuit or uncertainty and fault analysis.
- Experience with high reliability and/or autonomous systems.
- Familiarity with designing for rugged environments.
