Description
The Project Manager - Schedules serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for project scheduling within the Power Delivery Project Management Organisation. This role is responsible for developing and managing complex, multi-discipline schedules using Primavera P6, ensuring alignment across engineering, procurement, environmental, and construction activities.
This position requires a proactive, technically skilled individual with deep expertise in Primavera P6 and project controls who can ensure successful execution of complex projects through meticulous scheduling and data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills while supporting Southern Company's Values.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for Primavera P6 scheduling across multiple transmission capital projects
- Support Senior Project Managers by providing expert scheduling guidance, resource optimisation, and risk mitigation strategies
- Develop, maintain, and analyse integrated master schedules across Engineering, Procurement, Environmental, System Outages, and Construction disciplines
- Perform advanced schedule analyses, including critical path, float, and what-if scenarios, to proactively identify and address potential risks
- Lead schedule reviews and health assessments to ensure compliance with corporate standards and gated processes
- Mentor and develop less experienced schedulers and analysts, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
- Collaborate with cost controls and project controls teams to integrate schedule and cost data, supporting earned value and variance analysis
- Prepare and present detailed schedule performance reports for stakeholders, customers, and leadership
- Partner with internal teams and external contractors to ensure schedules reflect all aspects of project execution
- Drive consistency and innovation in scheduling tools, templates, and reporting methods to enhance accuracy and transparency
- Promote continuous improvement by evaluating emerging scheduling technologies and methodologies
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing and maintaining complex project schedules using Primavera P6 required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business
- Experience in Project Management, Engineering, or Construction required
- Power Delivery or Transmission experience strongly preferred
- PMI-SP, PSP, or equivalent scheduling certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6, including coding structures, logic analysis, resource loading, and schedule risk modelling
- Strong understanding of critical path methodology, earned value management, and schedule performance metrics
- Ability to perform advanced schedule analytics, including float and trend analysis, and 'what-if' scenario modelling
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Power BI or other data visualisation tools is a plus
- Skilled in facilitating meetings with customers and project teams, translating technical data into clear, actionable insights
- Experience integrating schedule and cost data to support variance analysis and forecasting
- Familiarity with gated processes and governance frameworks, with ability to refine and improve scheduling standards
- Exceptional organisational and communication skills, both verbal and written
