Digital Catapult is looking for a Legal Counsel to join its team. The role is ideally suited to someone that is curious about technology, that can develop in the role to confidentially represent the Legal Team, helping to advise and train the business, and assist in all aspects of contracting. This is a good opportunity for someone to transition from private practice or to continue their in-house career somewhere different.
The Legal Counsel will draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements on both the sales and purchasing side and also in a collaborative R&D context. They will understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile. They will advise on general legal (and commercial) queries from the business, manage work flows, and provide timely solutions. They will conduct legal research, create guidance and toolkits for the business, and provide training to the business on a range of legal areas, and company policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor in England & Wales, ideally 1-3 years PQE. They will have demonstrable experience of leading negotiations and providing specialist/technical advice to managers to resolve immediate issues. They will be proactive, driven, and self-confident, adaptable, and able to cope with ambiguity, changing, and evolving priorities in a busy department. They will have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. Experience in delivering an in-house legal service is desirable but not essential.
The salary for this role is c. £55-65K (subject to experience) + discretionary bonus + competitive benefits package.
