The Role

You'll join Carta's Compliance – Transactional Sub Division, working at the intersection of private equity deal-making and regulatory compliance. Your mission will be to conduct KYC due diligence on complex asset management entities to ensure every transaction Carta supports is clean, compliant, and defensible.

Responsibilities

  • Dig into transaction structures, working with private equity deal teams to understand deal anatomy, identify counterparties, and conduct risk analysis with a focus on AML, bribery, financial crime, and reputational exposure.
  • Unpack complex entity ownership, reviewing ownership and control structures , fund vehicles, SPVs, partnerships, trusts , to build a complete and accurate picture of who sits behind every transaction.
  • Drive the materials-gathering process, liaising with deal teams, legal, compliance, and counterparties to obtain the documentation needed to complete KYC reviews on time and to a high standard.
  • Keep deals compliant, collaborating with clients' legal and compliance teams to ensure their transactions meet AML/CTF regulations, internal policies, and jurisdiction-specific requirements , flagging issues early so deals don't stall at closing.

Requirements

  • Early-career with strong legal or compliance foundations, having 1-2+ years of working or internship experience in a legal sector role, internship, or graduate position.
  • Analytically minded and meticulous, working through complex structures carefully and methodically.
  • A clear communicator in writing and in conversation, with precise and professional written work and verbal communication that gives counterparties and colleagues confidence.
  • Deadline-oriented and adaptable, managing multiple priorities under pressure without losing accuracy.
  • Curious about private markets, with familiarity with fund structures, offshore jurisdictions, or KYC screening tools being a meaningful advantage.

The expected cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is:

  • $53,635 - $67,065 in Hamilton, NJ
  • $59,945 - $74,955 in Seattle, WA
