Compensation

  • San Francisco, Seattle or New York: $207K – $285K • Offers Equity
  • Zone A: $186.3K – $256.5K • Offers Equity
  • Zone B: $165.4K – $228K • Offers Equity

The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If the role is non-exempt, overtime pay will be provided consistent with applicable laws. In addition to the salary range listed above, total compensation also includes generous equity, performance-related bonus(es) for eligible employees, and the following benefits.

Security at OpenAI is a cross-cutting function that spans infrastructure, applied engineering, legal, policy, and product. Technical Program Managers (TPMs) play a critical leadership role in aligning teams and delivering execution at scale and this role will be foundational in shaping how we secure OpenAI’s systems, users, and commitments.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive cross-functional security, privacy, IT and compliance initiatives at the intersection of infrastructure, product, and policy. You will execute complex programs that reduce internal data access, prevent misuse, and ship security capabilities. You will focus your efforts on the most critical initiatives within Security, crossing the spectrum of insider threat, information security, physical security, and information technology challenges.

This role is deeply technical and execution-focused. It requires a structured operator who thrives in ambiguity, partners effectively across boundaries, and applies principled judgment to scale trust, governance, and security across OpenAI’s systems and products.

Responsibilities

  • Drive execution of critical security and compliance programs such as vulnerability management, merger and acquisition security and integration, infrastructure hardening, and datacenter security management. You will need to deeply collaborate on technical architecture and resolve technical problems in partnership with engineering.
  • Partner with IT, Infrastructure, Application, Legal, Privacy, and Security teams to build scalable programs, and deliver critical security outcomes across multiple disciplines, including insider threat, information security, physical security, and information technology.
  • Establish scalable frameworks and build programs around critical security initiatives including vulnerability management, evidence collection, incident response coordination, supply chain risk management, and device security.
  • Track and enforce OpenAI’s privacy and security requirements by translating commitments into engineering milestones and driving their full implementation across systems.
  • Create and maintain program-level visibility across risk areas, security milestones, and cross-org dependencies,ensuring outcomes are delivered reliably and at high quality.
  • Communicate status, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to technical and executive audiences and drive cross-functional execution with urgency and care.

Requirements

  • Are an empathetic communicator and leader,able to influence across technical and non-technical audiences, and build durable trust with partners.
  • Have 5+ years of experience leading complex technical programs focused on infrastructure security, data privacy, compliance, or enterprise platform capabilities.
  • Are deeply fluent in the intersection of engineering systems, security controls, and regulatory expectations,and are able to bring clarity and structure across all three.
  • Thrive in high-trust environments, bring rigor and systems thinking to ambiguity, and operate with a bias for aligned execution over org boundaries.
  • Are structured, detail-oriented, and rigorous in ensuring quality, accountability, and durable delivery.
  • Have a proven record of success driving highly cross-functional efforts across engineering, infrastructure, legal, compliance, and product stakeholders.
