Corporate Counsel, IP

Okta is seeking a Corporate Counsel, IP to join its Legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting Okta's innovations and brand, and shaping and refining its global IP strategy.

The ideal candidate will have a software and patent prosecution background, a relevant technical degree (CS, EE, or ECE), and experience handling various aspects of intellectual property work, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Portfolio Management & Strategic Advice: overseeing the lifecycle of Okta's IP assets, refining and executing IP strategies, and serving as an advisor on IP-related business risks.
• Patent: partnering with engineering and product teams to identify patentable inventions, collaborating with outside counsel on patent applications, and developing knowledge of the industry's patent landscape.
• Other IP Issues: advising on strategic trade secret issues, providing guidance on software copyright protection, and supporting the protection of Okta's brands through trademark registration and enforcement.
• Compliance and Policy: assisting with IP-related compliance issues, delivering training to employees on IP best practices, and supporting all phases of IP litigation.

The annual base salary range for this position is $180,000-$248,000 USD, depending on location. Okta also offers equity, bonus, and benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave.
