Description
As a Project Manager for Power Generation at xAI, you will own the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale power generation projects that support xAI's rapidly expanding AI infrastructure.
You will lead the development of power plants, substations, generation assets, and grid interconnection projects to ensure reliable, high-capacity power supply for our next-generation data centers.
Working cross-functionally with engineering, construction, procurement, and energy teams, you will drive projects from concept through commissioning in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead full lifecycle project management for power generation initiatives, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines, renewables integration, and substation projects
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans
- Manage project risks, issues, and change orders while ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery
- Coordinate with utility companies, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders for permitting and grid interconnection
- Track project progress, KPIs, and financial performance with clear reporting to leadership
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams on technical specifications and design reviews
- Drive procurement strategy and vendor/contractor management
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of project management experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, or large industrial projects
- Proven track record delivering complex, multi-million dollar energy projects on schedule and within budget
- Strong working knowledge of power generation technologies (gas, diesel, renewables) and electrical infrastructure
- Experience with project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Background in data center power systems or hyperscale energy projects
- Professional certifications (PMP, PE, or equivalent)
- Experience with utility-scale generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or high-voltage substations
- Familiarity with regulatory environments, permitting processes, and grid compliance
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work onsite in Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS area
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across teams
- Comfortable operating in a dynamic, rapidly scaling organisation with aggressive timelines
