Join the Wake Hospital Medicine team as a PRN Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA), delivering high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care while providing flexible coverage across multiple Wake Region hospital medicine sites.
The PRN Hospital Medicine APP will provide comprehensive inpatient care, supporting Hospital Medicine services throughout the Wake Region. This is a part-time position reporting directly to the APP Manager, with schedules developed every three months to provide coverage for PTO, FMLA, illness call-outs, and periods of high patient census.
Responsibilities:
- Perform initial and follow-up medical histories and physical examinations
- Conduct daily inpatient assessments and ongoing patient management
- Evaluate, admit, consult, and manage hospitalized adult medicine patients
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
- Order, interpret, and manage laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice
- Perform minor medical procedures as appropriate and within credentialing guidelines
- Coordinate care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, specialists, and ancillary departments
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning activities
- Document all patient encounters, assessments, procedures, and treatment plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Serve as a patient advocate while promoting quality, safety, and evidence-based care
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina
- Current prescriptive privileges and DEA registration
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association, valid at least 90 days beyond start date
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced inpatient environment
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Flexibility to work across multiple hospital locations and adapt to varying patient care needs
