Description

At Anchorage Digital, we're building the world's most advanced digital asset platform for institutions to participate in crypto. As a Member of Technical Staff, Automation Engineer, you'll join our Automation Engineering team, dedicated to dramatically improving our operational efficiency. You'll be on the front lines, building capabilities into existing back-office systems to reduce manual work and consolidate disparate systems.

Your role demands a highly adaptable and comprehensive technical skillset, as you'll not only create net-new backend services and capabilities but also integrate with and build upon a wide range of existing backend and frontend services. Your impact will be significant as you collaborate directly with our Global Operations teams to identify critical pain points, prioritize initiatives, translate operational needs into technical requirements, and ultimately design, develop, and deploy solutions that empower our entire organization.

Technical Skills:

  • Rapidly understand and navigate diverse existing codebases across various internal systems.
  • Author robust, high-quality, and well-tested solutions that span multiple backend and frontend services.
  • Contribute to secure, resilient internal infrastructure from the ground up, and ensure its ongoing health.
  • Actively participate in code reviews for changes impacting multiple teams, fostering an efficient, deterministic testing culture with an emphasis on minimizing technical debt across our internal systems.
  • Solve complex software design problems that optimize internal operations.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

  • Break down large, cross-functional internal projects into manageable tasks, accurately estimating multi-person efforts.
  • Ship code and solutions that directly improve the daily efficiency and productivity of global operations teams.
  • Find the right balance between progress (i.e. shipping quickly) and perfection (i.e. measuring twice) in an evolving internal environment.

Organizational Knowledge:

  • Jump between and contribute to a wide array of internal systems and operational workflows supporting different business functions.
  • Collaborate closely and cross-functionally with Global Operations and other internal stakeholders to understand critical needs and gain alignment on solutions.
  • Help scale the team and its impact across the organization.

Communication and Influence:

  • Influence the technical direction and roadmap for internal systems, ensuring our technology directly addresses operational needs.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, sharing expertise on navigating diverse internal codebases and understanding the strategic operational goals.

You may be a fit for this role if you:

  • Have 5+ years of professional experience building and enhancing complex internal software systems.
  • Have experience designing, building and deploying cloud native micro-services.
  • Are passionate about building automated tests alongside your features.
  • Have real-world experience building complex distributed systems.
  • Enjoy building services from scratch and supporting them over a meaningful period of time.
  • Have a genuine interest and pride in code quality and infrastructure.
  • Prioritize end-user experience and business value over 'cool tech.'
  • Developed 'computer science fundamentals', i.e. algorithms, data structures and operating systems (Formal CS degree NOT required).
  • Self-describe as some combination of the following: creative, humble, ambitious, detail-oriented, hard-working, trustworthy, eager to learn, methodical, action-oriented, and tenacious.

Although not a requirement, bonus points if:

  • Professional experience with Python or Go.
  • Professional experience with Kubernetes.
  • Have experience with system security (e.g. authentication, authorization, identity, API keys).
  • Have a background in the finance industry.
  • Were emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system.
