Description
Okta is seeking a Corporate Counsel, IP to join its Legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting Okta's innovations and brand, and continuously shaping and refining its global IP strategy.
The ideal candidate will have a software and patent prosecution background, a relevant technical degree (CS, EE, or ECE), and experience as a Patent Attorney. They will work closely with Okta's legal and business teams to further develop Okta's global patent portfolio and corresponding strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Portfolio Management & Strategic Advice: overseeing the lifecycle of Okta's IP assets, refining and executing IP strategies, serving as an advisor on IP-related business risks, and translating complex IP concepts into business-oriented advice.
- Patent: partnering with engineering and product teams to identify patentable inventions, collaborating with outside counsel on patent applications, developing knowledge of the industry's patent landscape, and refining Okta's patent strategy.
- Other IP Issues: advising on strategic trade secret issues, providing guidance on software copyright protection, supporting trademark registration and enforcement, and advising on API integrations, digital content, and developer agreements.
- Compliance and Policy: assisting with IP-related compliance issues, delivering training to employees on IP best practices, and supporting IP litigation.
The annual base salary range for this position is $180,000-$248,000 USD, depending on location. Okta also offers equity, bonus, and benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave.
