Description
The Autonomous Robotics Engineer will play a key role in defining, deploying, and scaling next-generation automation across Ford's global manufacturing network. This role supports the launch of advanced Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) and AGV technologies that modernize in-plant logistics, increase safety, improve quality, and enable Best-in-World manufacturing performance.
You will work hands-on with robotics systems, controls, IT architecture, and cross-functional launch teams to deliver reliable, repeatable automation that transforms how material moves in our N.A. plants.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, commissioning, and launch of AMR systems for in-plant material flow.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Controls, IT, Safety, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering) to plan and integrate AMR/AGV systems into facility operations.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across controls, networking, software, and system integration during facility commissioning and launch.
- Drive continuous improvement activities to enhance AMR throughput, uptime, fleet behavior, and system robustness.
- Benchmark Best-in-World AMR/AGV deployments and translate findings into Ford's automation strategy and standards.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, readiness evaluations, commissioning processes, and handoff to plant operations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Requirements:
+ Strong self-starter with a Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, mechatronics, computer science, or a related field. + 2+ years of experience deploying automation or robotics systems in a manufacturing environment. + Working knowledge of controls systems, industrial networking, and IT/OT interfaces related to robotics. + Knowledge of safety, quality, and regulatory requirements for autonomous technologies. + Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support N.A. launch activities. + Proficient English language skills
- Preferred Requirements:
+ Strong self-starter with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive issues to closure. + Experience with PLC controls (Allen-Bradley preferred), industrial robotics, AMR/AGV platforms, or virtual commissioning tools. + Understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards related to AGV/AMR technologies. + Familiarity with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies. + Experience with system-level debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.
