Description
A UE/Unity Level Artist is responsible for building and dressing immersive game environments and levels that support the gameplay experience. They work closely with the clients' Game Designers & Art Director, our internal team of Artists, Project Managers, and Technical Artists to ensure the clients' artistic vision is delivered with high quality and within schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and interpret game design documentation to gain a deep understanding of the environment, objectives, atmosphere, story, and visual style, and create game levels that closely align with the client's visual references and artistic direction
- Collaborate with internal teams to discuss level content, define task priorities, and provide production planning and time estimates
- Own the level production process, including organizing modeling and texturing requirements, and follow up on production progress and quality with internal teams
- Integrate assets and textures into the level to enhance the overall visual quality and artistic atmosphere of the product
- Ensure the levels are visually compelling and engaging while meeting technical requirements and performance optimization
- Playtest and refine the levels to ensure a high-quality gameplay experience for the players
- Create and maintain level art documentation and technical specifications, and troubleshoot technical issues and bugs related to level implementation
Requirements
- More than 3 years of relevant industry experience, with strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Proficiency in industry-standard software, such as Unity or Unreal Engine 5. Experience with UE5 features such as Nanite, Lumen, and PCG is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of game design principles and gameplay mechanics
- Strong understanding of proportion, scale, perspective, lighting and color theory
- Strong 3D modeling skills in Maya/Max and texturing skills in Substance Painter. Knowledge of software (ZBrush, Speedtree, World Machine, etc.) and trim textures and UDIMs
- Understanding modular kit design, with the ability to break down concept art into modular component pieces
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications (Pluses)
- Houdini / Houdini Engine workflow experience
- Blueprint development capabilities
- Material and Shader creation experience
- Knowledge of scripting languages, such as C# or Python
- A Technical Artist background
- Photogrammetry project experience
- Open-world project experience
- Console platform development experience (PS5 / Xbox Series X|S)
- International AAA project development experience
