Software Engineer, Identity & Access Controls

As Claude's capabilities grow, so does Anthropic's responsibility to ensure those capabilities reach the right people. The Identity & Access Controls team builds systems that verify customers, grant access to advanced model capabilities for approved use cases, and prevent misuse. As a software engineer on this team, you will build identity, vetting, and access management infrastructure, along with monitoring and enforcement tooling.

Key Responsibilities

• Build identity verification and vetting systems (KYC/KYB) for individual and business customers
• Design and implement access control systems for approved use cases
• Develop infrastructure to configure safety systems and detection thresholds for trusted access programs
• Create monitoring to detect misuse and tooling for enforcement teams
• Detect and remediate account takeover
• Integrate with third-party identity verification and data enrichment vendors
• Develop monitoring dashboards, alerts, and internal admin tooling
• Collaborate with policy, enforcement, threat intelligence, and go-to-market teams

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable experience
• Experience building and operating backend systems in production
• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Strong communication skills
• Care about the societal impacts of AI

Preferred Qualifications

• 6+ years of industry software engineering experience
• Experience with identity, authentication, or authorization systems at scale
• Experience with KYC/KYB workflows or identity verification vendors
• Experience in trust and safety, integrity, fraud, or abuse detection
• Experience detecting and responding to account takeover or credential compromise
• Experience partnering with operational teams to build custom internal tooling

The annual compensation range for this role is $320,000-$405,000 USD.
