Matt- Staff Software Engineer, Resiliency (Federal)

Okta is seeking a Staff Back-End Software Engineer to lead technical initiatives and own the reliability of their expanding Identity as a Service platform.

The engineer will develop microservices, build innovative frameworks, and optimize the cloud-native environment. They will champion reliability during design phases and collaborate across teams to address technical gaps.

Key responsibilities include:

• Partnering with engineering teams to design, develop, and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects
• Designing and implementing robust backend frameworks, tools, microservices, and library components
• Championing innovative, scalable, and resilient solutions across the engineering organization
• Exploring and integrating modern AI-driven developer tooling, automated diagnostics, and predictive monitoring capabilities
• Conducting rigorous design and code reviews
• Participating in and leading incident Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes
• Collaborating closely with Architects, QA, Product Owners, Engineering Services, and Tech Ops
• Mentoring new engineering hires and interns

The ideal candidate will have:

• 8+ years of experience as a software developer with deep, expert-level knowledge of Java (Golang experience is a strong plus)
• Demonstrated history of architecting, implementing, tuning, and debugging global cloud software
• Proven track record of addressing scaling, redundancy, and performance bottlenecks in high-availability, multi-tenant SaaS environments
• Practical experience or strong interest in leveraging generative AI utilities and developer assistance tools
• Outstanding communication and leadership skills
• Previous experience in a dedicated platform reliability, resilience, or core infrastructure role is highly valued

The annual base salary range for this position is $194,000-$243,000 USD. Okta offers equity, bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave.
