This team works onsite in our Burnaby office 3 days/week; Tuesday - Thursday. This is a 12-month contract to begin with and has the possibility of longer term employment.
As a Lighter 2, you will leverage your artistic eye and technical expertise to create lighting that enhances atmosphere, realism, mood, and depth across a variety of scenes. Working closely with the Art Director, Lighting Lead, and cross-discipline partners, you will interpret high-level creative direction and translate it into high-quality lighting solutions that support the project's visual goals. You will consistently deliver mid-complexity tasks with a high standard of quality, making sound decisions when executing the finer details while balancing artistic intent with technical constraints. You will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills by breaking down complex challenges, troubleshooting issues effectively, and collaborating with the wider team to deliver benchmark-quality content that contributes to the overall player experience.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage artistic eye and technical expertise to create lighting that enhances atmosphere, realism, mood, and depth
- Work closely with Art Director, Lighting Lead, and cross-discipline partners to interpret high-level creative direction
- Translate creative direction into high-quality lighting solutions that support project visual goals
- Deliver mid-complexity tasks with high standard of quality
- Make sound decisions when executing finer details while balancing artistic intent with technical constraints
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
- Break down complex challenges and troubleshoot issues effectively
- Collaborate with wider team to deliver benchmark-quality content
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience lighting for video games
- Experience with a 3D CG package (e.g., Maya, Mental Ray)
- Delivers on mid-complexity tasks in collaboration with Lighting Lead and Art Director
- Possess solid artistic skills, including a thorough understanding of color theory, composition, light, and form
- Delivers technically optimal content, following established budgets and processes
- Collaborates with leads to prioritize and plan a backlog of tasks
- Proactively raises issues and keeps communication channels open
- Edits attributes of material, light, textures, and render features to address critical feedback of visuals
- Demonstrated understanding of rendering, lighting, shading networks, polygonal modeling, and texture UV's
- Understands physical characteristics of light and how it is simulated in a CG environment (physically based rendering)
- Able to work from reference materials, identifying and translating key lighting details into applicable information
- Should be able to work on interior and exterior scenes
- Experience with film, photography, or theater lighting is a plus

PAY RANGES
- British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) $92,900 - $129,200 CAD
