Description
We are building the Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3) , powering Microsoft’s first-party real-time conversation and streaming products, notably Teams, with reliable, high-quality audio/video calling, meetings, and events at hundreds of millions of users.
As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team building mission-critical, low-latency media systems and drive the next generation of AI-powered media experiences.
Responsibilities
- Guide stakeholder partnerships to determine user requirements within and across teams; build continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and actionable metrics.
- Lead architecture and design discussions for products/solutions; own design decisions; ensure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements; set clear plans for testing and quality.
- Guide teams to produce extensible, maintainable code; define quality metrics, coding patterns, and review standards; lead by example in code-writing and review practices.
- Lead identification and management of cross-team and back-end dependencies; enable cross-team communication and resolve conflicts.
- Drive multiple groups’ project, release, and resourcing plans; break long-term vision into milestones; own deployment safety and the impact of builds on users and services.
- Act as an expert DRI on rotational on-call; establish playbooks, standardized processes, postmortems, telemetry, and SLA adherence; lead efforts to reduce incident volume.
- Oversee tooling, CI/CD automation, and compliance (security, privacy, safety, accessibility); keep the team’s skills current; build partnerships across the Microsoft engineering ecosystem.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND solid technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Extensive industry experience developing enterprise-grade software.
- Some experience managing engineering teams, delivering high-quality software for customers.
- Familiarity with building applications and services in the Cloud.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND extensive technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Solid people management experience.
- Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.
- Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and/or application frameworks.
- Cloud and services experience, with Azure cloud experience highly desirable.
Salary The typical base pay range for this role across Estonia is € 70,600.00 – € 129,200.00 per year.
