Description
Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. As a Drilling Engineer at bp, you will support the delivery of well design, planning, and execution across the full well lifecycle. You will contribute to the Integrated Well Delivery process, ensuring wells are designed and executed safely, efficiently, and in line with bp standards, Control of Work requirements, and local regulations.
You will work closely with Senior Drilling Engineers and cross-disciplinary teams to support engineering decisions, operational execution, and governance activities such as Decision Gates and assurance reviews. You will also contribute to the use of standardised engineering practices and the integration of operational and regional learnings into future well designs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing drilling engineering input throughout the well lifecycle, from concept selection and optioneering through execution and handover to production
- Developing and maintaining well designs, Basis of Design (BoD), DGOP, and operational programmes aligned with bp policies, OMS, and DWOP
- Applying right-scoping and fit-for-purpose design principles to develop operationally sound and value-focused well solutions
- Contributing drilling engineering input to Decision Gate materials and technical assurance processes
- Identifying and managing well-specific risks, including detailed risk assessments with defined prevention and mitigation barriers
- Addressing well control, process safety, reliability, and integrity risks through design and planning activities
- Providing technical assurance through modelling and simulations, equipment assurance activities, and QA/QC reviews
- Performing engineering self-verification and providing technical oversight to support compliance with bp standards and regulatory requirements
- Preparing AFE and project cost estimates, supported by offset well analysis and benchmarking
- Supporting execution through WWI development, operational engineering input, and participation in Incident Management activities as required
- Supporting timely regulatory submissions and approvals to reduce the risk of operational delay
- Reviewing and approving third-party invoices from a technical and contractual perspective
- Coordinating with subsurface, subsea, projects, logistics, integrity teams, contractors, and service providers
- Contributing to After Action Reviews and incorporating learnings into future Basis of Design updates and engineering standardisation efforts
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline
- Extensive practical experience in drilling and well engineering within offshore environments, including rig or floating operations
- Proven capability in detailed well design and operational execution
- Experience working with third-party contracts, service companies, and complex stakeholder interfaces
- Well Control certification at IWCF or IADC Combined Supervisor level
- Solid understanding of the Landmark software suite for casing design, directional planning, hydraulics, and torque & drag modelling
- Understanding of regulatory compliance, permitting, approvals, and engineering assurance processes
- Ability to contribute independently while working effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong analytical skills, engineering judgement, and the ability to prioritise competing work fronts in a dynamic operational environment
