Overview
We are seeking a Principal Architect to join the Core Services team in Microsoft Teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and architecting platform services, focusing on infrastructure, network security, and monitoring layers for microservices powering Microsoft Teams.
Responsibilities
- Drive strategic improvements in architecture and design standards across Teams services.
- Lead by example with a hands-on approach to architecture, developing, testing, and implementing end-to-end optimisation of code.
- Analyse data from telemetry pipelines and monitoring tools to identify areas for improvement.
- Mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to drive multiple group projects, release plans, and work items.
- Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and working on-call to monitor system health.
- Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- 2+ years of experience handling security issues for large-scale cloud services, network infrastructures, native applications, web applications, distributed and database systems.
- 2+ years of experience in areas like TCP/IP concepts, load balancing, CDN, ACL, routing, TLS, Certificate Lifecycle management, IP network analysis, and performance and application issues using standard tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Experience leading cross-functional collaboration across multiple engineering organisations with strong incident response and ability to drive technical decisions in ambiguous environments.
- Experience with Network security, Network troubleshooting, Cloud Security, Security Policy management, and Certificate lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure services or ‘Infrastructure as a Service [IaaS]’.
- Experience managing horizontal initiatives/programs that span multiple teams/services.
