The Engineering Manager Opportunity We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Engineering Manager to lead the team building Okta’s Device Identity and Access products. This is a high-visibility, transformative initiative that sits at the absolute core of our Zero Trust strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and Inspire: Motivate a cross-functional team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, psychological safety, and operational excellence.
- Drive the Vision: Partner directly with Engineering Directors, Architects, and Product Management to define the long-term technical vision and execute the strategic roadmap.
- Ensure Technical Excellence: Foster an environment that prioritises system reliability, scalability, and code simplicity.
- Build the Team: Own the recruitment, mentorship, and professional development of your engineers, ensuring they have clear paths for career progression.
- Execute with Precision: Facilitate agile project planning, manage cross-functional dependencies, and ensure the timely, high-quality delivery of critical security features.
Requirements:
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in enterprise software development, with a proven track record of at least 3 years in formal engineering leadership/management roles.
- Technical Depth: Extensive background in developing massive-scale, multi-tenant SaaS applications (Java/Spring Boot preferred), coupled with a strong conceptual understanding of client-side development (iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, or Android).
- Security Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of endpoint security concepts, including TPMs, Secure Enclaves, MDM protocols, and continuous risk evaluation.
- Cross-Platform Context: A strong conceptual grasp of how diverse OS-level security features report their state securely to the cloud.
- Strategic Communication: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to executive leadership, influence architectural direction, and champion your team's work.
Nice-to-haves:
- Understanding of modern Identity and Access Management protocols (FIDO, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation).
- Knowledge of advanced cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, Security+).
- Exposure to microservice architecture and distributed systems at scale.
- Familiarity with frontend/UI technologies such as ReactJS.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
