Senior R&D Engineer

We are seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to work in Canonsburg, PA. As a Senior R&D Engineer at Synopsys, you will play a critical role in developing software products and supporting systems for the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) industry.

Responsibilities:

• Develop software products and supporting systems
• Use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to tackle complex issues
• Participate in planning, architecture, and research
• Perform complex development activities, including user experience, software design, and solver research
• Employ best practices and help maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
• Perform complex bug verification, release testing, and beta support for assigned products
• Research problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions
• Research and understand marketing requirements for a product
• Work independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study
• Alternatively, Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study, and three years of experience in a related position
• Alternatively, Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study, and five years of experience in a related position
• Experience with development of iterative solvers and preconditioners for sparse linear systems
• Experience with high-performance computing methods, including distributed memory and shared memory parallel programming, with GPU programming in C, C++, and Fortran
• Experience using commercial and open-source linear algebra packages to implement numerical simulation workflows for computer-aided engineering
• Knowledge of error estimation for adaptive linear solvers in finite element, finite volume, and finite difference methods
• Knowledge of matrix approximation techniques like low-rank approximation, deflation, and randomized decomposition
