Description

We are seeking a Protection & Control Applications Engineer/Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our engineering group, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining impedance models from equipment manufacturer data and transmission line designs using Gridscale X APA. You will also perform system impact studies in support of transmission system interconnection requests, and perform protective relay calculations and coordination studies for substation and transmission line projects.

In this role, you will provide technical expertise and support for design, construction, planning, marketing, and customers regarding protection and control of Southern Company's transmission and distribution facilities. You will also participate in an on-call rotation to provide remote support to field and operations customers in the event of abnormal/emergency system conditions.

As a Protection & Control Applications Engineer/Analyst, you will have the opportunity to learn how a power system/utility operates and how substations are designed and built. You will also attend various classes to aid in professional development and improve your skills and knowledge to be successful.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, with an electrical emphasis/discipline. You will also need to have experience performing protective relay calculations and coordination studies, and working with Gridscale X APA or other related power system simulation software programs.
