The EIH Assessor provides Environmental and Industrial Hygiene expertise to Fuel & Low Carbon Technology, Oil & Gas Technology and Wells Fluid teams. The role holder ensures that workplace health hazards are anticipated, recognised, evaluated, and controlled to protect employees, contractors, and the community. Responsibilities directly support Bp's operating management system (OMS) 3.4 requirements for Health & Industrial Hygiene.

Job purpose and primary objectives:
This role plays a key part in the assurance of industrial hygiene within an R&D business and will provide oversight and verification of the standardised delivery against our OMS. The role will also provide operational line technical query support to the operating teams across our operating sites, ensuring legislation is maintained, providing assurance to the external legislative bodies.
Key responsibilities:
- Implement IH processes aligned with our OMS
- Identify workplace health hazards (chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic, radiation, psychosocial).
- Assess exposure risks, related to the activities recommending and implementing effective controls.
- Maintain exposure assessment programmes.
- Support development of IH capability across the site.
- Manage Chemical Risk management (CRM) data entry and maintain chemical inventories.
- Deliver materials handling management procedures and risk assessments using the Bp CRM tool and EnableOn toolkit.
- Act as the super-user for materials handling and risk assessment platforms; provide mentorship and training to site teams.
- Provide IH input into HVAC design, fume containment, LEV systems, respiratory protection (RPE) selection, and laboratory health risk controls
- Coordinate or support monitoring programmes such as:
Chemical exposure sampling. Biological, radiological, thermal (heat stress) and fatigue hazards. Ventilation performance and indoor air quality. Deliver or support EIH/IH training (e.g., H₂S awareness, heat stress, ergonomic hazards). Mentor team members or HSE colleagues as part of capability development. Provide advice to wider Bp teams and support new business proposals requiring IH inputs.
Qualifications & Experience:
- University degree in Occupational hygiene, Industrial Health and hygiene or similar.
- 3-5 yrs experience of delivering IH management in an operational environment.
- Solid understanding of industry standards and legislative requirements.
- Knowledge of IH hazard categories (chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic, psychosocial).
- Proficiency in exposure assessment, sampling strategies, and interpretation.
- Understanding of engineering controls, ventilation, PPE/RPE, and lab design.
- Proficient written and spoken English language.
- Good communicator, able to technically address with conviction verbally and written across Projects and Operations on technical matters at all levels of the company.
- Able to demonstrate pragmatism when balancing technical decisions and operational needs (deliver safe & competitive solutions).
Desirable criteria and qualifications:
- Professional body status.
- Experience of R&D scale projects and laboratories.
- Knowledge and experience of laboratory scale equipment and gas systems.
