Description
We are seeking a Library Page to join our Conservation Division at the New York Public Library. As a Library Page, you will have the opportunity to work in a large and busy conservation department, gaining experience and knowledge in a professional library environment.
The Library Page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, and may be subject to change. Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and constructing housing materials for collections
- Rehousing collections
- Performing basic stabilization of collections
- Performing batch repair treatments on general collection books
- Helping maintain conservation materials and supplies in order
- Assisting Conservation staff with basic lab and conservation tasks
- Learning about the daily operations of a library conservation lab
Requirements:
- Current enrollment in a high school or college or degree-granting program
- Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
- Interest in cultural heritage
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and hand skills
- Computer fluency, especially with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Sound organizational skills and ability to follow instructions in a detailed-oriented environment
- Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, and professionalism
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships
