Engineering Manager

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager at Flexport, you will lead the development of the Platform element in our PSI (Platform, Security & Infrastructure) hub in Amsterdam. You will be responsible for driving the platform roadmap, identifying high-leverage problems, proposing strategies, and owning execution.

Responsibilities

• Own the developer platform roadmap, identifying what's slowing engineers down and what's highest-leverage to fix
• Lead a team of platform engineers building and evolving tools, systems, and paved paths for product engineers
• Stay close to the ground, dogfooding the platform, running developer interviews, and bringing firsthand product instincts to prioritization decisions
• Drive execution, engaging directly with hard problems, reviewing technical designs, and helping your team find solutions
• Contribute to company-wide planning, cross-team decisions, and the long-term strategy of the combined platform, security, and infrastructure organization
• Help build the Amsterdam engineering culture, including hiring, onboarding, and team rituals

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time building developer platforms, internal tooling, or infrastructure
• 3+ years as an engineering manager, including experience owning a technical roadmap with high autonomy
• Deep technical expertise in modern developer platform work, including CI/CD systems, container orchestration, build tooling, API gateway and service communication patterns, IAM, and observability
• Strong product instincts applied to internal users, with a track record of identifying the right problems to solve
• Experience managing in a distributed, multinational engineering organization

Nice to Have

• Experience in data-driven DevX development using metrics such as DORA
• Experience with AWS
• Experience with Terraform
• Prior experience managing engineers in the Netherlands or broader EU employment contexts
