Description

We are seeking an experienced Fitter to join our team. As a Fitter, you will be responsible for reading, interpreting, and following blueprints and sketches to understand the specifications of a project. You will also be required to cut (circular, reciprocating, miter, and chop saws), grind, and assemble metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cutting, grinding, and assembling metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints
  • Tacking and welding of foundations and installing temporary fasteners to hold structural members in place
  • Properly implementing SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GMAW-P process (multi-pass) for tack welding as needed
  • Properly using oxy-acetylene torch as needed
  • Fabricating components using various hand and power tools
  • Using pipe cutting machine and/or beveling machine to cut pipe to required length
  • Aligning parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers
  • Straightening warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push-pull methods
  • Removing high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torch
  • Assembling and securing pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints
  • Inspecting and testing installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods

In addition to these responsibilities, you will also be required to:

  • Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols
  • Assist in the training and development of junior fitters
  • Collaborate and communicate with welders, metal fitters, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades as required to complete vessel construction or repair and to maintain efficient work flows
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent Saronic professionally
