The Senior Narrative Designer will help drive the narrative experience of Battlefield forward. They will work closely with cross-discipline teams to deliver the implementation of the game's story elements, ensuring an engaging and coherent player experience in alignment with Battlefield's tone, lore, and gameplay pillars.
Responsibilities:
- Help define and uphold the narrative vision, tone, and storytelling goals for Battlefield's game world
- Work with a team of narrative designers and writers to maintain project consistency and high-quality standards
- Design, prototype, and iterate narrative systems (dialogue, branching logic, environmental storytelling, signage, interactive moments)
- Oversee the integration of narrative with gameplay, UI, and player progression systems
- Provide cross-disciplinary stakeholder management facilitating focused creative discussions
- Align early with design, art, audio, production, localisation, QA, engineering, and partner teams to ensure that the narrative spaces and intent are identified and communicated
- Use a clear understanding of the production process, budgets, and impact to align narrative solutions with other departments
- Identify risks, blockers, dependencies, and unclear ownership before they create the need for reworking
- Communicate calmly, inclusively, and constructively during production to ensure a smooth process across teams
- Keep work and progress visible through clear documentation, JIRA updates, Slack updates, and regular follow-ups with the team
- Ensure the final player experience is coherent, readable, and aligned with creative intent
Qualifications:
- 3+ years in Narrative Design with at least 1-2 shipped AAA titles in a narrative design role (FPS/action preferred)
- Familiarity with game engines (Unreal, Unity, Frostbite) and scripting/tools (Jira, Perforce)
- Strong storytelling abilities and knowledge of narrative structure, character development, and interactive storytelling
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to give constructive feedback
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, feedback-rich environment
- Familiarity with the Battlefield franchise and a passion for military action stories
- Understanding of branching, gameplay scripting, and VO requirements
