Description
We are seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our Microsoft Devices Operations team in Hanoi, Vietnam. This role involves leading the design and implementation of advanced production lines and automation systems to enhance manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will contribute to realizing Microsoft's hardware strategy and bringing exceptional customer experiences to consumers worldwide. You will be responsible for strategic development and evaluation of manufacturing processes, driving cost and cycle time reductions, ensuring supplier performance and compliance, and embedding AI-driven initiatives for operational efficiency.
Key responsibilities:
- Engage in engineering, design, and production validation across various products
- Drive product engineering, repair, and design, and contribute to engineering validation
- Lead the simulation of high-volume manufacturing processes to ensure sustainable mass production
- Implement automation, AI-driven analytics, and SPC systems to enhance quality and efficiency
- Lead defect detection and root cause analysis, and establish robust qualification processes
- Drive efforts to ensure parallel work with suppliers, reviewing, approving, and observing them as needed
- Leverage expertise to identify significant project risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Apply predictive modeling techniques to lead the quality roadmap and operations
- Work independently, directing and setting priorities for manufacturing partners to solve complex challenges
- Drive clear and accurate communications and recommendations to peers and senior management
The ideal candidate will have:
- Master's Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field, and 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Or Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Solid technical aptitude and experience with enclosure and mechanical assembly-related manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated ability in product and statistical process control, MSA/GRR, part characterization, and structured problem-solving
- Proficiency with statistical analysis and Six Sigma principles, including tools like JMP or Minitab
- Experience with 3D design tools and CAD suites, such as Pro-E/Creo and SolidWorks
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
