Engineering Manager, Safety Processing

Discord is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Safety Processing team, which focuses on building LLM pipelines for reviewing reported content, systems for enforcement, appeals paths, and tooling for investigators and content reviewers. The goal is to automate review decisions while maintaining precision and recall, and to improve the appeals process.

Responsibilities:

• Lead three squads (Review, Enforce, and Tooling) through their tech leads, setting direction across automated review, enforcement, and appeals
• Push automation toward nearly all review decisions without compromising precision or recall
• Rebuild appeals processes to provide a unified path for all eligible appeals
• Own the tooling used by investigators, improving efficiency and traceability
• Ensure regulatory and child-safety compliance alongside roadmap planning
• Hire and grow the team

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with a solid backend and distributed systems background
• 2+ years of experience managing engineers
• Experience shipping LLM systems in production where the output is a decision the business acts on
• Strong technical skills to review designs, follow incidents, and disagree with approaches
• Experience working with operations or human-in-the-loop teams
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice to Have:

• Passion for Discord and/or gaming
• Experience in trust and safety, fraud, integrity, or abuse engineering at a consumer platform
• Background in building internal tools for operations or review teams
• Experience consolidating fragmented legacy systems or managing outsourced operations teams

The role offers a salary range of $248,000 to $279,000 + equity + benefits.
