Description
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee the safe, compliant, and cost-effective management of a portfolio of closed landfill sites across the Southern region.
As a Site Manager, you will work closely with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure environmental compliance, optimise landfill gas and leachate systems, and support operational sites with health, safety, and compliance.
Your core responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of closed landfill sites, ensuring ongoing compliance with environmental permits, planning conditions, and Health & Safety legislation.
- Carry out regular site inspections and oversee contractors, ensuring aftercare activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standards.
- Manage landfill gas collection and leachate control systems, identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance and operational efficiency.
- Take ownership of aftercare budgets, monitoring expenditure, controlling costs, and supporting capital investment projects.
- Develop and implement short, medium, and long-term site management plans to maintain compliance and improve site performance.
- Work collaboratively with operational, environmental, engineering, compliance, finance, and health & safety teams to deliver business objectives across the region.
- Build positive relationships with regulators, local authorities, landlords, contractors, and other key stakeholders, representing the business professionally at all times.
- Provide health, safety, and compliance support to operational sites across the Southern region, responding to incidents and regulatory issues as required.
Our essential requirements:
- Proven experience managing landfill or waste management operations, including a strong understanding of environmental compliance and site aftercare.
- Demonstrable experience managing landfill gas and/or leachate systems, with the ability to interpret technical data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget ownership, cost control, and project management experience.
- A proactive, organised, and safety-first approach, with the ability to work independently across multiple sites and priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working alongside regulators, contractors, and operational teams.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel daily across the Southern region, with regular overnight stays and occasional UK-wide travel.
