Description
As Bp transitions to an integrated energy company, we must adapt to a changing world and maintain competitive performance. Our customers & products business area is setting up a business and technology centre (BTC) in Pune, India. This will support the delivery of an enhanced customer experience and drive innovation by building global capabilities at scale, demonstrating technology, and developing deep expertise.
The Engineering Standards and Practice Lead will lead the day-to-day operation of Castrol's Engineering Standards & Practices lifecycle, taking standards and practices from intake and triage through coordinated review, drafting/editing and updates, governance endorsement, publication readiness, and adoption support across Performance Units.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain up-to-date engineering standards portfolio register (owners, revision dates, review cadence, dependencies, and adoption status by Performance Unit), with open issues and actions controlled to closure. Establish an effective end-to-end standards lifecycle workflow (intake → triage → owner assignment → review coordination → consolidated feedback → governance submission → decision/action tracking → publication readiness). Coordinate the Standards Working Group to manage intake/change control, review and updates, publishing/adoption tracking, and decision/change logs. Reconcile normative references and interdependencies (document-to-document links and cited standards) and govern a Gap Register with interim mitigations, owners, and due dates controlled to closure. Deliver Governance Board outcomes on a predictable cadence: clear agendas and decision packs, accurate minutes and decisions logs, and concise portfolio/status dashboards that enable timely endorsements and adoption decisions. Coordinate delivery across two maintenance streams: internally maintained procedures/practices and externally supported standards linked to industry and regulatory bodies, including integration of third-party updates into Castrol requirements where applicable. Ensure reliable standards access and knowledge management enablers (e.g., industry standards subscriptions and internal libraries/hubs), with link integrity, user guidance, and structured feedback capture for continuous improvement. Provide adoption support for updated standards and practices, including communications/training materials and rollout tracking, with a visible feedback loop to inform future revisions.
Requirements:
Engineering or technical degree with 4-6 years of relevant experience in standards/requirements management and controlled documentation environments. Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder reviews and governance forums (decision packs, minutes, decision/action tracking). Working knowledge of engineering standards ecosystems, including internally handled procedures/practices and externally sourced industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, NFPA, IEC, ISO, OSHA) and common access/subscription models. Strong written communication and customer management across global teams; able to translate diverse inputs into concise, decision-ready material. Comfort working with portfolio registers, review cadences, and reporting dashboards to demonstrate standards “portfolio health” and progress to closure.
You will work with:
Global Engineering & Manufacturing Manager (process owner) and Global Process Engineer (SPA) to align governance, cadence, and lifecycle execution. Engineering Standards Governance Board members and nominated senior engineering/manufacturing representatives across Performance Units (Americas, China, India, Asia-Pacific, EMETA). Process Safety Engineers and other domain experts to ensure alignment to process safety, mechanical integrity, and operational risk controls. Document authors/owners for internally maintained standards, practices, and procedures. Third-party engineering contractor / technical service provider for external support where needed.
